आदित्य हृदयम् (Aditya Hridayam - Heart of the Sun God):
From Yuddha Kanda of Ramayana, revealed by sage Agastya to Lord Rama before his battle with Ravana. A powerful hymn with 31 verses praising Surya.
तत एकाग्रमनसो युक्तचित्तः समाहितः।
उवाच प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा रघुः प्राग्द्रामुखः स्थितः॥
आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्।
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यमक्षयं परमं शिवम्॥
tata ekāgramanaso yuktacittaḥ samāhitaḥ
uvāca prāñjalir bhūtvā raghuḥ prāgdrāmukhaḥ sthitaḥ||
ādityahṛdayaṃ puṇyaṃ sarvaśatruvināśanam
jayāvahaṃ japen nityam akṣayaṃ paramaṃ śivam||
Then with concentrated mind and focused consciousness, Rama stood facing east with folded hands and recited: Aditya Hridayam is sacred, destroyer of all enemies, brings victory, should be chanted daily - it is imperishable and supremely auspicious.
